Vintage fashion

Behind Kiplay Vintage is the desire to take an olden-day clothing collection and give it a contemporary twist for an off-the-peg collection. Proudly championing its Made in France roots, this line of Vintage off-the-peg clothing has been designed in collaboration with the French designer Christian Légier and Kiplay. Woven through this collection, crafted on the site of Saint Pierre d’Entremont in Normandy, are Kiplay’s origin story, DNA and values.

The new designs are inspired by 1940s clothing styles. The clothing cuts have been updated and the garments have undergone natural treatments for an aged, retro look. Some items have been hand-darned just like back in the day and the original label has been reproduced.

Moleskin

Moleskin is a fabric with the appearance of shorn velvet, similar to a mole’s fur (hence its name). The densely woven cotton cloth has been used extensively in France to make work clothes because it is hard-wearing and durable. Moleskin is often described as the French equivalent of American Denim, as both are commonly dyed indigo blue and intended for the same use. Clothes made out of French Moleskin can come in other colours, however, depending on their intended wearers: so white for painters, black for carpenters and blue for factory workers for example.

Made in France

A deft blend of quality and ethics, fashion made locally in France is in higher demand than ever. Products “Made in France” are appealing, and for good reason. They are an opportunity to reconnect with French craftsmanship and quality. For Made in France represents more than just a skilled craftsperson in their workshop or studio. It is also about a whole industry that’s working hard to continue producing in France despite the pressures of relocations and competition. Made in France isn’t just a passing fashion trend. It’s a conscious choice. To embrace a different consumer mindset. To wean ourselves off the big brands that produce miles away and in poor conditions. It’s also an opportunity to showcase our own work, and to feel proud of French-made production. For there is a real attention to detail and finish in French-crafted products.

Making the clothes

Once cut, it is time for one of the most important stages. It is thanks to this stage that you will be able to get many years of wear out of our clothing. Our garments are still made, to this day, in our workshops at Saint-Pierre-d’Entremont, where our jackets, trousers and even caps take shape in the hands of our expert team.
